What is Ectropion & Entropion Surgery?
Eyelid malposition can result from age, facial paralysis, trauma, sun damage, skin cancer and congenital malfunction.
Ectropion: This is an outward turning of the eyelid. This can cause redness, tearing and discharge around eyes. This can also effect the closure of the eyelids.
Entropion: This is an inward turning of the eyelids causing eyelashes to rub against the cornea. This can cause corneal infection, ulceration and may even lead to vision loss.
How Is Ectropion & Entropion Surgery Performed?
Ectropion surgical repair requires tightening of the lower eyelids. This surgery can be combined with tear duct surgery to improve tearing symptoms. This surgery can also be combined with lower blepharoplasty.
Entropion surgical repair involves excising orbicularis oculi muscle, reinserting lower eyelid retractor tissue and tightening the lower eyelid.
Both these surgeries are usually covered by insurance and performed as an outpatient procedure.

Results & Expectations
There can be some pain, swelling and bruising for 1 to 2 weeks. The pain is usually controlled with ice compresses and over the counter medications. The results of the surgery are permanent. Since no two eyes are the same, Dr. Kalyam customizes her plan for each patient based on periorbital structures and the knowledge of eyelid muscle anatomy.
