What is a Brow Lift?

It’s an unfortunate truth of life that your face will change as you age, and nowhere will this be more apparent than with your eyebrows. As you age, you will notice that your eyebrows and forehead will begin to fall due to the decreased elasticity of your skin and facial tissue, leading to a tired or aged appearance of the upper face and eyes. The best way to address this is through a brow lift, and you won’t find a better one than with Dr. Kalyam at Legacy Eyelids & Cosmetic Surgery.

If you are unhappy with the wrinkles on your forehead or just want a more full, vibrant look, our doctor will go over your specific situation and develop a treatment that works for you.

What Does a Brow Lift Do?

When we perform a brow lift, our goal is to make your eyes appear younger and more rested. A sagging brow can give you a tired, bereaved look, but we can help you face the world looking alert and awake. Often, this surgery is used in conjunction with other surgeries or treatments around the eyes. While the results will be apparent, the fact that you had work will not be. You will find people commenting on your improved, rested appearance without knowing that you had anything done.
When you visit our office, we will go over every aspect of the procedure with you to rest assured you are getting a treatment that’s right for you. For more information, call today for a consultation.

What Can I Expect from the Procedure?

A brow lift procedure can take several forms, depending on what works best for you.
  • Non-Surgical–Largely preferred by younger patients or patients who want to avoid surgery and are looking for only mild changes. This primarily involves the use of injectable fillers to improve your eyebrow’s contour.
  • Brow Pexy–This technique is used for small lifts and eyebrow stabilizations, usually in conjunction with another procedure like an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. This involves a small incision hidden in the eyebrow.
  • Temporal Brow Lift–This technique is used on the outside of the brow, with the incision hidden in the hairline. This is usually performed as part of a focused lift.
  • Endoscopic Brow Lift–In this procedure, an endoscopic camera is used to elevate the forehead and eyebrow. The tissue is then fixed in place using sutures hidden in the hairline. This is less invasive than it sounds and involves a faster healing time.
  • Coronal Brow Lit–This technique is used for patients looking for significant changes to their forehead and brow. It usually requires general anesthesia and is followed by a longer recovery time.
  • Direct Brow Lift–In this procedure, an incision is made directly above the eyebrow to limit excess tissue. This procedure involves less surgical and recovery time than others and is often preferable for cranial nerve palsy or Bell’s palsy patients.
The surgery should not take longer than an hour or two.
If you feel your eyebrow beginning to droop to the extent that you’re not comfortable with, a brow lift may be what you need. During your consultation, Dr. Kalyan will go over your options with you and assess your specific situation to see what will work best. You can count on all of your questions being answered at this time.
As with any surgical procedure, some scarring afterward is to be expected, but our surgeons excel at hiding the scars where no one can see them, such as under the eyebrow or behind the hairline. Non-surgical brow lift procedures are an exception.
Full recovery from a brow lift process can take around a week and a half to two weeks. While you can go about your daily life during this time, be aware that you may need bandages for a few days. How long they stay on depends on the specific procedure. You should generally keep your head elevated for a while and avoid strenuous physical activity. Most forms of Brow Lift surgery involve local anesthesia, but some types require general anesthesia. For these, you will likely need someone to drive you home afterward.
